JSC/JYL Fall 2010 Bridge Program

Check back soon for our Fall 2010 Bridge Program details.

Recreation Program Overview

The goal of the Jamestown Soccer Club’s Recreational program is to provide a fun, low pressure learning enviornment that will foster a love of playing the game of soccer. Emphasis is placed on skill development, participation, and an overall enjoyment of the game.

Unlike our Travel programs, there are no tryouts required to participate at the Recreation level. Players will have at least one practice per week along with weekly games in which each player is expected to play a minimum of 50% of the time, and no one player should play the entire game.

Up until age six (U6), the leagues are co-ed. From U8 through U14, there are seperate boys and girls divisions. Jamestown Youth League, JSC’s parent organization, will provide each player with a uniform. It is up to the player to provide appropriate soccer shoes, soccer ball, and shinguards.

Both the U4 "Little Jammers" and U6 "Bumble Bees" age groups plays four-a-side (4v4) soccer with no goalkeepers. Goalkicks and corner kicks are observed as are throw-ins. U4s play four (4) six minute quarters, while the U6 age group plays four (4) eight minute quarters.

The U8 "Bantam" age plays five-a-side (5v5) with a goalkeeper included for two 22 minute halves. Throw ins are used, with one "mulligan" allowed on each improper throw. Every free kick and penalty is indirect. The offside rule is not enforced.

At U10 "Pee Wee" the rules begin with teams playing six a-side (6v6) incluing a goalkeeper included for two 25 minute halves. There are no "mulligans" for throw ins. Illegal throws are enforced. All usual FIFA rules are observed on in-direct and direct kicks as well as penalties. The offside rule is not enforced.

All coaches in the Jamestown Recreational program are volunteers - usually a parent or relative that may or may not have a soccer background. The Jamestown Soccer Club will aim to provide assistance and training sessions for coaches and players as well as extend invitations to join in with some of the Jammers programming.

JSC Recreational teams may participate in tournaments such as the NCYSA Recreational Cup, which is held every November.
