Try Out Policy & Procedure

Try Outs are open to all.

All players currently playing with the Jamestown Soccer Club (JSC) have been evaluated throughout the year, however it is still mandatory to attend tryouts so they can be evaluated. It is also mandatory for players to try out in their own age group unless permission is given from the Director of Coaching (DOC). If the DOC and Technical Staff (TS) feel the player should be looked at in the older age group this will be supported. However this does not automatically mean that the player will be offered a spot in the older age group. Players wishing to tryout out in an older age group should refer to the JSC Playing up Policy.

At least two tryout dates will be held for each age group. On occasion a third maybe published prior to tryouts or an additional date added if the TS need more time to best serve the age group and the placement of players.

Selection

Players are selected from a “pool” consisting of new and returning players. Typically all JSC teams are created new each year as players may move from one team to another, move clubs, move out of town, etc. The DOC along with the TS will ultimately make the decision/recommendation regarding a players’ placement. Selection is based upon commitment, individual development, performance, age group/team needs, athleticism, team chemistry, attitude, attendance and potential to improve throughout the year.

Team Formation

Teams are typically formed via a tiered format (U10 age group may be different) -- Gold (A), Blue (B) and White (C) with the top individual players available in each age group being placed on the gold team, the next group placed on the blue team, etc.

Note: On occasion it is suggested that “teams are already picked prior to tryouts”. It is important to the program that prospective and existing members understand that this is not the case. However, it is also important that it is understood that the TS are expected to evaluate existing players throughout the year and as such may know where a players’ future development may be best served. This is always subject to the tryout process and the interest level for that players’ particular age group.

Notification

Shortly after the completion of an age group’s tryouts, players will be invited to join a team. Players will be notified of their placement/results via a phone call or they may be told after the tryout in a brief individual parent and player coach meeting: Prospective and current members should understand that this may mean other players are hearing about placement before they do and we ask that they remain patient as we move through the teams as follows:

JSC will strive to post complete team rosters within 48 hours after the last tryout session for each age group. This is dependent on the timeliness of acceptances.

Acceptance:

Players are expected to make a decision whether to join a team within 24 hours. A non-refundable payment is required to accept a position which will be due at the club registration night or before. Once this acceptance is made, the player and their family are committed to the team and the Club for the entire playing year and are expected to fulfill all training, game, financial and volunteer commitments.
